The Four Astronauts Who Will Walk on the Moon

The Artemis II Epic: an adventure armed with an exceptional crew

In April 2023, NASA unveiled the crew for the Artemis II mission , marking a bold renaissance in lunar exploration. Scheduled for 2025, this historic mission, the first manned flight to the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972, will be led by a team of courageous pioneers.

Reid Wiseman: Mission Commander

Grégory Reid Wiseman, born in 1975 in Baltimore, is an American astronaut, engineer and naval aviator. Reid began his career in the United States Navy as a fighter squadron pilot deployed to the Middle East. In 2009, NASA selected him to become an astronaut, and after completing his training in 2011, he joined the International Space Station (ISS) in 2014 as part of Expedition 40/41.

In December 2020, Wiseman was named head of NASA's Astronaut Office, a prestigious role before being designated, in April 2023, commander of the Artemis II mission.

Christina Koch: Mission Specialist

Christina Hammock Koch, born in 1979 in Michigan, is designated mission specialist for Artemis II and will be the first woman to travel beyond low Earth orbit.

After earning her degrees in electrical engineering and physics, she went to work at NASA Goddard Space Center and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Selected as an astronaut in 2013, she completed her training in 2015 and made history in 2019 by participating in the first all-female spacewalk with Jessica Meir. The same year, she broke the record for the longest continuous time spent in space by a woman, with a total of 328 days.

Victor J. Glover: Pilot of the Orion Starship

Victor Jerome Glover, born in 1976 in California, received a bachelor's degree in general engineering from California Polytechnic State University in 1999. He was then commissioned in the United States Navy, where he served as a test pilot.

Selected by NASA as an astronaut in 2013, he completed his training in 2015 and was part of the SpaceX Crew-1 crew in 2020, becoming the first African-American to complete a long-term stay aboard the ISS. In 2023, he is designated as pilot of the Artemis II mission.

Jeremy Hansen: Mission Specialist

Jeremy Hansen, born in 1976, is the only non-American astronaut on the Artemis II mission. Originally from Canada, he obtained a bachelor's degree in space sciences and a master's degree in physics from the Royal Military College of Canada.

In 2014, NASA first selected him as an aquanaut aboard the Aquarius underwater laboratory as part of the NEEMO 19 underwater mission. In 2023, he was finally named mission specialist for Artemis II alongside Christina Hammock .
